Army veterans' memoir tells the story of Army life in a combat zone for her Human Resources troops.
Imagine being at work, or lying in your bed, or even sitting wherever you are right now…and knowing that at any moment the world could literally explode around you. Without warning.
In her stirring memoir, Bronco Strong, Angela M. Odom, a personnel services battalion commander, recounts daily life as a soldier in an active war zone during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Odom came into command of the 15th Personnel Services Battalion in 2006, and immediately they were deployed to Baghdad via Kuwait. The soldiers under her command had proven themselves before in the same theater of war. But things had changed in their time at home, and now they found themselves walking into a living nightmare.
The soldiers of Task Force Bronco bravely endured, fulfilling their monumentally difficult support tasks throughout a grueling fifteen-month extended deployment. But things didn’t always go according to plan.

Ryan and his dearest cousins live in different states and don’t get to see one another often. There’s nothing he can do about it. One morning, his mother sends him to the basement to get some boring stuff adults need. She gives him a list so that he won’t forget what she needs. As Ryan is looking at this list, the weirdest thing happens. The words his mom wrote begin to rearrange themselves on the paper. It says, “Ryan, It’s Your Time to Know.”
“Uh, know what?” Ryan asks the paper but, it doesn’t respond. Ryan soon sees a map that takes him to the basement and beyond. Ryan follows that map and meets the God of Game, Golom. Since that conversation with Golom, Ryan’s day gets really weird.
Magically, Ryan gets back to his room.
He thinks that it must be a dream.
As he’s about to meet his cousins on a video call,
Ryan steps out of his world and into a game.
There he sees all his cousins!
However, there’s trouble in the midst of this
great reunion. Will they conquer the evil they
face or fall victims to these troubles?

The journey to becoming an effective leader can be full of stumbling blocks and learning curves. But for women, particularly those pursuing a career in male-dominated settings, learning to lead can be a tumultuous road. Camouflaged Sisters: Leadership Through the Eyes of Senior Military Women Leaders examines the grit, perseverance, and determination it takes to rise through military ranks as a woman in uniform.
In this anthology, twelve trailblazing women leaders recount tales of the adversity they faced to gain the trust of their Troops, earn the respect of their peers, and make promotion. Their stories offer candid advice to women leaders learning to navigate a system that is not always supportive of their success. The leadership toolkit offered in these pages provides readers a vital resource for achieving a successful military career. Young women leaders will find this anthology invaluable to their leadership journey.
